PERSONAL HOLIDAYS (5)             Employee Requests Dates

400.015  Personal Holidays

   1.   An employee may select five (5) personal holidays each calendar year and the supervisor may grant the days provided the number of employees selecting a particular day off does not prevent the District from providing an adequate level of service.

   2.   The personal holidays must be taken during the calendar year or entitlement to the days will lapse.

3.   The entire personal holiday must be taken on one day and cannot be taken a few hours at a time. Exception: part-time staff receive an annual allotment of hours prorated to their schedule and may use those hours in combination, and/or in combination with vacation time in order to take a day off.

4.   An employee who is eligible to take a personal holiday and who terminates employment will be given credit for personal holidays according to length of employment. An employee who has already taken a greater than allowable number of personal holidays, as of the termination date, will have his/her final paycheck reduced by the amount paid for the excess personal holidays.

400.020  Holidays - Observance

   1.   Holidays designated by the Board of Trustees will be observed by the Stevens County Rural Library District.

   2.   Whenever a holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday will be observed as a holiday.

   3.   Other Religious Holidays: Time off for individuals to observe religious holidays may be granted at the discretion of the Director upon request of the employee.  Personal holidays or vacation leave must be used for this purpose.

400.025  Holidays - Compensation - Accrual

It is the intent of this section to insure that every eligible employee enjoys the benefits of time off for holidays observed by the Library District.

   1.   All eligible employees shall be compensated for designated holidays on a prorated basis, with eight hours allowed for a full-time position.

If an employee is scheduled to work on a holiday and the employee's compensated time with holiday time exceeds the number of regularly scheduled workweek hours, the excess compensated time, up to the amount allowed for a designated holiday, will be added to the accumulated vacation leave, or the employee may choose to receive paid compensation.

If the employee’s prorated holiday pay does not cover the number of hours the employee was scheduled to work, the employee must either make up that time by working extra during the pay period in which the holiday takes place, or take vacation time, or use personal leave.

400.030  Holidays - Occurring During Paid Leave

A holiday occurring during an employee's vacation, sick leave, or other paid leave, shall be considered as holiday time and shall not be charged against that employee's accrued paid leave, EXCEPT when such holiday occurs during terminal leave.
