Position Description

 

POSITION TITLE:                  Driver/Maintenance (part time)

FLSA STATUS:                      Non-exempt

SALARY RANGE:                  Library Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY:        Picks up and delivers library materials to area libraries on a regular schedule.  Performs minor repairs and other maintenance tasks as needed.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.      Deliver and pick up materials to and from library facilities by driving a van according to a prescribed schedule. 

2.      Load and unload the van. Pack and unpack boxes in the library as needed.

3.      Inspect the general operating condition of library vehicles; check fluid levels, condition of tires, steering, brakes, and related items prior to operation each day.

4.      Repair and maintain library vehicle within scope of knowledge, informing supervisor of mechanical problems as required.  Assure vehicle chassis lubrications, oil changes, and authorized repairs are accomplished as scheduled or required.  Provide recommendations relating to vehicle conditions and needed repairs. 

5.      Perform routine maintenance tasks such as replacement of headlights and wiper blades, exterior washing, and interior cleaning.

6.      Perform facility maintenance and repair using standard hand and small power tools including hammers, saws, screwdrivers, drills and wrenches.

7.      As needed, clear walkways and steps of snow or debris. 

8.      Perform other duties as may be assigned to support the District's mission.

 

SUPERVISION:

 

Works under the supervision of a Library Manager.  Exercises no supervision.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

1.      High school diploma or equivalent.

2.      Customer service awareness and perspective.

3.      Ability to work effectively with staff and customers of all ages.

4.      Ability to drive safely and proficiently in all types of weather and driving conditions.

5.      Ability to maintain a schedule.

6.      Ability to perform minor repairs using standard hand and small power tools.

7.      Ability to routinely and repeatedly pick up and move boxes of library materials.

8.      Ability to use initiative, problem-solving skills, and judgment.

9.      Ability to accept and follow instructions.

10.  Effective verbal and written communication skills.

11.  Ability to meet requirements of Child and Adult Abuse Information Act.

12.  Valid driver's license, normal risk insurability, and a driver’s record free of significant moving violations.

13.  First Aid and CPR certification may be required.

14.  Able to travel to various locations throughout the county, including evenings and weekends as necessary.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

1.      Working from a home library, will spend most of every working day, driving the district van picking up and delivering materials.

2.      Flexible working schedule including weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) and evenings.

3.      Public library and/or retail environment.

 

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

1.      Hearing and speaking to customers and staff.

2.      Driving for extended periods of time.

3.      Sitting for extended periods of time.

4.      Bending, stretching and reaching to retrieve materials.

5.      Lifting or carrying items up to 50 pounds.

6.      Moving quickly around locations within the library.

7.      Traveling to libraries within the District.

9.      Managing detail and multiple demands and setting priorities.

10.  Working under moderate levels of stress.

11.  Solving problems requiring interpretation.
