Colville Library Manager

POSITION: COLVILLE LIBRARY MANAGER

SALARY: $44,241.60 - 51,209.60 per year

BENEFITS: Social Security, retirement, life, medical, dental and optical insurance; paid vacation and sick leave.

WORKING HOURS: 40 hours per week, with some evening and weekend hours.

DUTIES: The Colville Library Manager is a full-time highly responsible management and front line public service job involving planning, directing, and supervising patron services for a rural community library facility in accordance with established policies and procedures.  The position will include coordinating and overseeing outreach to area schools, programming for a variety of ages, collection development, staff training, community involvement, participation on a website development committee, and public speaking.  The Colville Library Manager has some leadership roles on countywide projects and will assist with coordination of library service throughout the region.

The Libraries of Stevens County is one of the newest and most exciting library systems in Eastern Washington.  Libraries in this rural district implement a wide range of approaches to library service to meet the needs of a geographically dispersed population: virtual reference, blogs, remote access databases, wikis, remote book returns, library "stations" in general stores, as well traditional library facilities.  Stevens County Libraries were featured on WebJunction for their ability to build community online and in ALA’s March, 2007 Public Libraries journal for their innovative use of a wiki.  The current Library Director was named a “Mover & Shaker” in 2008 by Library Journal for excellent rural library development, and the youth services coordinator was awarded the Washington Library Association’s annual statewide award for excellent youth programming in 2008.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.      MLS Degree from an ALA accredited school of librarianship and/or WA State Certification as a Librarian required.

2.      Three years of related full-time work experience including supervisory experience, and at least one year of related fulltime library employment.

LOCATION: Chewelah Public Library, 301 E. The Chewelah Library is managed via a partnership between the City of Chewelah and the Libraries of Stevens County.  The Chewelah Library Manager will serve as a department head in the City of Chewelah and as a Manager for the Libraries of Stevens County.  The Chewelah Library is governed by a City Library Board that works collaboratively with the Library District Board.  The City of Chewelah contracts with the Libraries of Stevens County for management of the Chewelah Library.
