Dude! Where's my library?!

SCRLD 2003 Teen Summer Reading & Listening

Stevens County Rural Library District

The Stevens County Rural Library District kicked off it's first ever teen summer reading program with live music at both the Columbia River Library in Kettle Falls and the Colville Public Library.  Nearly 70 teens attended the two programs which included music by local high school students, web design, snacks, and prizes.  The band "Impossible Flame" played to an enthusiastic crowd at the Columbia River Library and the band "Ruin" made sure that "quiet in the library" did not apply for one evening!

General Organization

  • Teens will read books, magazines, listen to music, etc. throughout the summer. The goal is to keep things fairly low-key so that teens can participate as they wish. For each item read or listened to, a teen will submit a short review. The reviews can be dropped into a box at each location and there will be a weekly drawing for a prize at each location.
  • In addition, there is a blog for Stevens County teens to have an ongoing dialog about stuff they are reading, listening to, etc.  The blog has been set up at: http://scrld.blogspot.com/
  • Every teen who enters at least one review will receive a sports bottle
