"The fall of land is about 20 feet to the mile, and the altitude is about 2,400 feet above sea level. The soil is basaltic loam, with self-draining subsoil, and is pronounced by experts as among the best apple land in the state of Washington. These lands are covered with some standing timber, from which the saw timber has been cut, and can be cleared ready for the plow at an expense of from 20 to 25 dollars per acre.
