Morgan Park History Program
Budge didn't get the opportunity to know his grandfather. The newspaper from November 1, 1930 blamed the eldest Evan's death on heart disease saying he was the victim of excitement that was induced by boys playing Halloween pranks. He was 67 years old.
Watching over the town at Halloween was something Evan Morgan would pass down to his son. They felt it was important to keep an eye on things during this holiday so the boys' pranks didn't get out of hand. They called it Halloween patrol and would hand out candy and check things out during the night. They weren't always successful in preventing pranks. MarGwen remembered a time when boys took a wagon full of firewood and put it on top of the school, wagon and all. Another time, they took Mrs. Dunlap's bloomers and hung them from the flag pole at the school.
